Obituary for Frederick Young

Frederick Young
Passed suddenly away on October 17 after a short battle with cancer, Frederick Young of St. John’s NL. A War Veteran from the Korean War during the period of 1950 – 1953 and member of the Royal Canadian Legion. Fred Young was predeceased by his parents Edward and Eva Young, stepfather John D. Snow, brother Jimmy Young and sister Loretta Canaday (Don). Leaving behind his life-long partner and loving wife of 61 years Jean Young; children Robert (Gloria), Brian (Linda), Laurie and Karen; grandchildren Christopher, Kevin (Joanne), Riley and Reagan; great-grandchildren Charlotte and Teddy; sisters-in-law Joan O’Reilly, Marie (Damien) Ryan, Marg Cooper; brothers-in-law Paul O’Reilly & Robert O’Reilly (Pauline); many nieces, nephews, friends and his village coffee buddies. Dad served as the Neighbourhood watch commander on Smith Avenue and will be greatly missed by the neighbours in more ways than one. Your shift has ended now Fred. Dad loved to tinker with his many projects like rebuilding boats, cars, campers, trucks and even a motorcycle. He loved to be busy, loved anything shiny, no job was too big! Dad, you’re gone now to start a new project with no boundaries and no shipping costs. Oh, no doubt it will be BIG and SHINY. We’ll always remember your famous last words “you just don’t understand!” Resting at Barrett’s Funeral Home, 328 Hamilton Avenue with visitations on Friday and Saturday, October 19 & 20 from 2pm-4pm & 7pm-9pm. Funeral service to be held from Barrett’s Chapel on Sunday, October 21, 2018 at 2pm. In lieu of flowers donations in Fred’s memory may be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association.
